Be yourself; everybody else is already taken – Oscar Wilde
I’m a twenty-something from the southern part of the Netherlands. I’ve always loved reading, ever since a young child. This preference turned into a passion when growing older eventually leading to me studying English Language and Culture specialising in literature. On this blog I will report about my exploration in the field of literature, mainly English but not restricted to, and about my shenanigans in Dublin during my year abroad.
My name is Josje and I’m 22 years old who currently lives in The Netherlands, though this is about to change as I will spend a year abroad studying at University College Dublin. My family and friends know me as an avid book reader, book hoarder and book lover who leaves a trail of books behind wherever she goes. As said before, I’m majoring in English with a focus on literature. My area of interest ranges from the early modern period to the end of modernism and part of why I started this blog is that I felt the need to become more acquainted with the books and culture from these eras. I am quite a history buff and very interested in gender roles portrayed throughout the centuries. Aside from my passion for history and literature I’m also known as a dog lover and I’m overtly fond of our two dogs.
I am the proud owner of a plethora of books, which I affectionately call ‘my big pile o’ books’. These books are scattered throughout my room, or basically the whole attic, while I’m trying to make progress in reduce the number of books I still have to read. Although achieving this feet is difficult as the pile continues to grow instead of reduce as a result of my book hording tendencies.
My pile of books is an eclectic collection ranging from Boccaccio’s Decameron to Dickens’ Nicholas Nickleby to Eco’s In the Name of the Rose to Martin’s Game of Thrones series. In a way it can be said that this pile resembles me and my wide-ranging interests
(although I’m usually very sceptical about listing favourites, as they are subject to change, I will endeavour to list some that are very near to me, but are definitely not limited to )
